Overview
Capital is a personal bookkeeping platform built around AI agents. Instead of opening an app, finding the right screen and filling in a form for every coffee, you tell your AI assistant what happened in plain language, for example "lunch 30", and the assistant records the transaction in your Capital ledger. You can still use the web dashboard to review, edit and report on everything.
The connection is deliberately simple. You sign up, generate an API key in Settings, and copy the generated Skill document into the AI tool you already use. Claude can use it through Projects or a Skill, ChatGPT through Custom Instructions, and OpenClaw has native Skill support with a one-click install. Each user gets an isolated database, and agents work with it directly through SQL, so there is no hidden layer deciding what gets stored.
Beyond daily income and expenses, Capital covers five asset categories: liquid funds, investments, fixed assets, receivables and liabilities. It supports multiple custom tags per transaction, monthly and yearly reports with trends, recurring subscriptions, syncing of stock, fund and crypto holdings with market data, and a wealth timeline for recording milestones.
Capital is 100% open source under the Apache 2.0 license, so you can clone it and run it on your own server if you prefer to keep financial data entirely under your control. As with any tool that lets an AI write to your records, review new entries regularly. Capital is a record-keeping tool and does not provide financial or investment advice.
Key features
Agent bookkeeping in natural language
Record transactions by telling your AI agent what you spent or earned. Short phrases like "lunch 30" are enough for the agent to create the entry.
Works with the AI tools you already use
Connect Claude (via Projects or Skill integration), ChatGPT (via Custom Instructions) or OpenClaw (native Skill, one-click install) using an API key and a generated Skill document.
Your own isolated database
Every user has a separate database, and agents operate on it through SQL directly. Nothing is hidden behind a black-box service layer.
Five asset categories and smart sync
Track liquid funds, investments, fixed assets, receivables and liabilities. Stock, fund and crypto holdings can sync with market data so balances stay current.
Tags, reports and subscriptions
Add multiple custom tags to a transaction, see monthly and yearly summaries with trends, and manage recurring subscriptions with manual sync when needed.
Open source and self-hostable
Licensed under Apache 2.0. Use the hosted version to get started quickly, or run your own copy if you want full control over where your data lives.

FAQ
- Which AI assistants can I connect?
- The site lists Claude (via Projects or Skill integration), ChatGPT (via Custom Instructions) and OpenClaw (native Skill support). The connection uses an API key from your Settings page plus a generated Skill document.
- Is my data shared with other users?
- No. Each user gets an isolated database. If you want complete control, you can also self-host Capital since it is open source under Apache 2.0.
- Can the AI make mistakes in my ledger?
- Yes, it can misread an amount or pick the wrong category, just like a rushed human. Check what the assistant says it recorded, and review entries in the dashboard each week. Treat your API key like a password and revoke it if a device or chat is compromised.
- Does Capital track investments?
- Capital tracks investments as one of five asset categories and can sync stock, fund and crypto holdings with market data. It records and reports; it does not give investment recommendations.
- How much does it cost?
- Capital is free to start, and paid plans are listed on its pricing page. Self-hosting the open-source code is also an option.
