Overview
FlowType Grammar Lens is a Chrome extension for language learners who spend time on X (formerly Twitter). Real posts are some of the most useful reading material a learner can find: they are short, current, and written the way people actually talk. They are also full of contractions, slang and casual grammar that textbooks rarely cover. Grammar Lens adds a small analysis icon next to each post so you can get an explanation of that exact post without leaving your timeline.
When you click the icon, the extension breaks the post into its parts and shows vocabulary, readings, pronunciation hints, part-of-speech notes and plain-language grammar explanations, with examples. Explanations are written in the native language you choose, while the target language can be detected automatically or set manually. The Chrome Web Store listing names Japanese, Korean, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian as supported target languages, and also mentions loanword origins and language-specific grammar patterns.
The extension is designed to stay out of the way. Nothing is analysed until you press the icon on a particular post. At that point the selected post text and your language settings are sent to the FlowType AI analysis service; your preferences are stored in your browser. Grammar Lens is an independent tool made by POMODIARY and is not affiliated with X Corp. or Twitter.
Like any AI explanation tool, Grammar Lens can occasionally misread slang, jokes or very new expressions, so treat its notes as a strong first pass rather than a final authority, and cross-check anything surprising in a dictionary.
Key features
Analyse a post in place
A small icon appears beside each post on x.com. Click it to study that post with its replies and context still visible, instead of copying text into a separate translator.
Grammar, vocabulary and readings
Each line is broken into words and grammar pieces with part-of-speech labels, readings, short explanations and examples, so you learn why the sentence is built the way it is, not just what it means.
Explanations in your native language
Set your native language once. Explanations are written in that language while you read posts in the language you are learning.
Pronunciation hints
Readings and pronunciation hints for unfamiliar words help with languages where spelling does not show pronunciation clearly, such as kanji in Japanese.
Privacy by default
The extension does nothing until you click the icon. Only the post you choose and your language settings are sent for analysis, and the developer states this data is not sold to third parties.
How to use FlowType Grammar Lens
- Install FlowType Grammar Lens from the Chrome Web Store (a link is on lens.flowtype.ai).
- Open the extension settings and choose your native language, plus your target language or automatic detection.
- Go to x.com and follow a handful of accounts that post in your target language on topics you genuinely enjoy.
- When a post looks interesting but difficult, click the small lens icon beside it.
- Read the breakdown: first the overall meaning, then each word and grammar point, paying attention to casual forms you have not seen in textbooks.
- Copy useful lines and new expressions into your own notes or flashcards so you can review them later.
Who it’s for
- Japanese learners at upper-beginner level and above who want to read real, casual Japanese instead of only textbook sentences.
- Learners of other supported languages who already use X and want to turn scrolling time into reading practice.
- Anyone who keeps running into slang, contractions or internet abbreviations that dictionaries explain poorly.
- Self-study learners who want quick grammar explanations in their own language without switching tabs.
FAQ

- Does it work on sites other than X/Twitter?
- No. It is built specifically for posts on x.com.
- Does the extension read everything on my timeline?
- No. According to the product site and store listing, nothing is analysed until you press the analysis icon, and only the selected post text and your language settings are sent to the analysis service.
- How much does it cost?
- The extension is free to install. Neither the product page nor the store listing describes a paid tier or usage limits at the time of writing.
- Is it affiliated with X?
- No. Grammar Lens is an independent extension published by POMODIARY, LLC and is not affiliated with X Corp. or Twitter.
