Overview
ChatPaper.AI is a web app for people who want to keep up with research without spending an hour a day scanning preprint servers. Every day it publishes a short issue of five paper summaries, written in plain language and grouped into sections for AI, Biology, Neuroscience and Social Science. The papers are drawn from sources such as arXiv and Hugging Face, so the issue reflects what is actually being posted, not a curated list of old classics.
The daily issue is designed as a three-minute ritual: you guess a small puzzle, read the five summary cards, and stamp the issue as done. A streak counter keeps track of consecutive days, and a streak freeze covers the occasional missed day so a single busy morning does not wipe out your progress. You can read the current issue on the web without signing in.
When one paper deserves more than a summary, ChatPaper.AI offers a deeper reading mode and a personal workspace. The workspace accepts your own material (papers, web pages, YouTube videos and audio) so you can read and ask questions about it in one place. Deep reading, available on the Pro plan, adds bilingual close reading, select-to-ask questions on any passage, and export of notes and citation cards.
A summary is a starting point, not a substitute for the paper. We built ChatPaper.AI to help you decide what is worth reading closely and to make that close reading faster. Before you cite a result, check it against the original PDF, especially numbers, sample sizes and the exact wording of claims.
Key features
A daily issue of five papers
Five short, plain-language summaries each day, organized into AI, Biology, Neuroscience and Social Science sections, with papers sourced from places like arXiv and Hugging Face.
A small daily habit with streaks
Guess the puzzle, read the cards, stamp the issue. Streaks are tracked, and a freeze protects your streak when you miss a day now and then.
Deep read for papers that matter (Pro)
Bilingual close reading, select-to-ask on any sentence or paragraph, and export of your notes and citation cards when you want to move from browsing to studying.
A workspace for your own material
Upload papers, web pages, YouTube links or audio and ask questions about them. Uploaded files can be renamed, previewed and deleted from one interface.
Audio recording for lectures and meetings
Record audio from one minute up to two hours. For sessions longer than that, the help pages recommend recording in segments.
Nine interface languages
The site is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Russian and Spanish.
How to use ChatPaper.AI
- Open chatpaper.ai in your browser. Today's issue is readable without signing in.
- Do the short daily puzzle, then read the five summary cards. Skim the section that matches your field first.
- Stamp the issue when you finish to keep your streak going.
- If a paper catches your attention, open the original from its source and decide whether it deserves a full read.
- For a close read, sign in and add the paper (or your own PDF, a web page, a YouTube link or an audio file) to your workspace.
- Ask questions about specific sections, and on Pro use select-to-ask and bilingual reading for passages that are hard to follow.
- Export your notes and citation cards, then verify any figure or claim you plan to cite against the original PDF.
Who it’s for

- Readers working in a second language who benefit from bilingual reading of dense passages.
- Students and professionals who need to review lecture recordings, literature or meeting audio alongside written sources.
FAQ
- Is ChatPaper.AI free?
- The daily loop of five summaries is free. Deep reading features such as bilingual close reading, select-to-ask and note export are part of the paid Pro plan. Current prices are listed on the pricing page of the site.
- Where do the daily papers come from?
- The daily issue draws on recently posted papers from sources such as arXiv and Hugging Face, grouped into AI, Biology, Neuroscience and Social Science sections.
- Can I trust an AI summary enough to cite it?
- No summary, human or AI, should be cited in place of the paper. Use the summary to decide what to read, then quote and cite the original publication after checking the exact wording and numbers in the PDF.
- What kinds of material can I upload?
- The workspace accepts papers and PDFs, web pages, YouTube videos and audio. Uploaded files can be renamed, previewed and deleted.
- How long can a recording be?
- Recordings can run from one minute to two hours. For very long events, record in several segments.
- Should I upload unpublished manuscripts?
- Think about who owns the material first. If you are a peer reviewer or the manuscript belongs to collaborators, check your journal's or institution's policy on using AI tools before uploading anything confidential.
